Guidelines for Submissions

ARKANSAS REVIEW: A Journal of Delta Studies focuses on the seven states of the Mississippi River Delta, from St. Louis to the Gulf of Mexico. Interdisciplinary in scope, we welcome scholarly contributions from all the humanities and social sciences, including anthropology, art history, folklore studies, history, literature, musicology, political science, and sociology. Articles should be aimed at a general academic audience and follow the second Chicago style for documentation, known as Documentation II: Author-Date References and specified in The Chicago Manual of Style, sixteenth edition. Submit articles in hard copy or email to the General Editor at the address below. Previous issues with tables of contents can be viewed at

Photographs and other visual materials are encouraged as stand-alone submissions or to accompany articles. These materials should be submitted electronically and should be in a standard image file format (such as JPEG or TIFF) with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

ARKANSAS REVIEW publishes creative material—fiction, poetry, essays, and visual art—that evokes or responds to the Delta cultural and natural experience. Non-Delta related material is not considered for publication. Address submissions, with accompanying SASEs, to the General Editor at the address below or send electronically via email.

Please allow three to twelve months for notification of acceptance or rejection.

All hard copies of submissions will be recycled unless accompanied by a self-addressed envelope with sufficient return postage.

Contributors will receive three copies of the issue of Arkansas Review in which their work appears, along with a year’s subscription.
